Our Company
Wags to Whiskers is owned and operated by Laura and Brian Allen, who share their home with their “herd” of dogs: Lucy, Rosco, Polly & Pumpkin.
Lucy: Lucy was rescued from the Hutchinson Humane Society in April of 2004. When we found her on www.petfinder.com all we could learn about her was that she was picked up by animal control and no one had claimed her after a couple of weeks. She is now about 4 years old. She started out as an only child and continues to fight for her alpha position.
Rosco & Polly: Rosco & Polly were adopted on December 31st, 2004. After buying a house and getting married, Brian and I decided Lucy needed a friend. Again we headed to www.petfinder.com and found this brother and sister at the Lawrence Humane Society. We hadn’t planned on two more dogs, but we fell in love with them! They were found running along a highway outside of Lawrence and were picked up by animal control. They are now about 2 ½ years old. Polly will never feel that she has gotten enough love and Rosco is our only timid dog.
Pumpkin: Pumpkin is our latest addition, one which we had not planned. Brian discovered little Pumpkin sleeping on a chair on our front porch in February of 2006. She ran off when he opened the front door to go to work, but was back the next morning when he left again. We offered her food and water but she would sit at the end of the driveway until we went back inside. Finally the third morning I got up very early and snuck out while she was asleep and brought her in out of the cold. After a couple of days of trying to find an owner, we decided we had too many dogs and we took her to the Wichita Humane Society. After a couple of tear filled days we went back and adopted her. She fit right in and battles Lucy for the alpha role in the pack. She is very loyal and affectionate, and can be very jealous! She is about 4 years old.
Unfortunately, there are no cats in our home right now. Brian and I both grew up with cats in our homes, but after adding Polly and Rosco, it became clear that it would be hard to introduce a cat into our “herd” of dogs.
